SAFETY AND SECURITY
Health, safety and environment (HSE)
Trained personnel seek to prevent any
negative impact of FMI activities on the health
and safety of FMI members and on the
environment.
- To ensure the safe handling of chemicals,
advice and information are provided on
the FMI intranet.
- A radiation safety officer oversees the
purchase of radioactive materials, monitors
workplaces and conducts regular training
courses for postdoctoral fellows and students.
- A biosafety officer helps in the risk assess-
ment of FMI projects, monitors the labora-
tories dedicated to recombinant DNA work at
various levels and provides instruction on
legal and safety aspects of experimental work
with organisms.
- The medical service provides appropriate,
regular health checks for FMI members.
- Disposal of waste, whether chemical, radio-
active or biological, is carried out according
to local statutes and in the most environ-
mentally friendly manner.
- Energy use and purchasing of materials are
monitored to avoid waste of resources. |

Information security (ISEC)
The FMI has a policy of active data protec-
tion. This includes personnel security and
protection of our computer networks.
Exchange of data and materials during our
extensive collaborations with third parties
is governed by formal agreements. |
