ORGANIZATION
Duration
A course of study at the FMI leading to a PhD
degree of the University of Basel typically
lasts 4 years.
Supervision
The leader of your research group will be
your main supervisor. In addition, you will be
supported by a thesis committee of experts in your field of study.
Courses
PhD students matriculated at the University of Basel are required to attend courses chosen from the graduate student program. At the end of your studies, you will be required to show that you have accumulated the required number of course hours.
Strengths of the FMI
The FMI has excellent technical resources that you can use during your thesis. You will learn highly advanced techniques from specialists. Every year the entire institute meets for 4 days in the Swiss alps to discuss science and hear presentations from postdocs, students and group leaders. The FMI has an active student body that organises seminar series and career guidance events.
