| FUNCTIONAL GENOMICS |

The FMI has an Affymetrix GeneChip Micro-
array facility for systematic genome-wide
analysis of expression profiles of most model
organisms. Project are planned together with
Ed Oakeley and labelling, hybridisation and
scanning are all performed centrally by
Herbert Angliker to maintain the highest pos-
sible standardisation. Collected data are de-
posited in a central server that allows users
to access data and applications from any
remote computer platform. We have devel-
oped simple applications to automate
"standard data processing". Our data-mining
wizard performs an automated replicate ana-
lysis comparison on a 20-chip experiment
in less than 5 minutes. We also offer help in
integrative systems biology to assign expres-
sion data, proteomics data from the pro-
teomics facility, promoter analysis and gene
ontology data into a unified structure based
around known metabolic processes. This al-
lows scientists to study responses to stimuli
in a holistic fashion. The FMI is a founder
member of the Swiss Array Consortium.
